The year is winding down – and so is the Open Enrollment period for choosing a Medicare plan.
“Medicare Open Enrollment runs through Dec. 7, so there’s still time to shop your options and pick the plan that best suits your needs and budget,” said Walter Burkhartsmeier, Medicare program director for Moda Health.
When choosing a plan, remember that while traditional Medicare plans – Medicare Part A and B – cover many medical services, they do have some limitations, including dental, vision and hearing. On the other hand, Medicare Advantage Plans include that coverage and can also help people save money.
“People like Medicare Advantage plans to help minimize their out-of-pocket costs while also getting additional benefits,” Burkhartsmeier said, adding that some of Moda’s Medicare Advantage plans also feature discounts on alternative care and gym memberships.
Also covered under Medicare Advantage are vaccines shingles and the flu. And Moda’s plans include access to telehealth, too.
“For seniors, it’s a safe, effective way to get medical advice from a physician without having to drive or catch a ride to your doctor’s office,” Burkhartsmeier said. “Moda also offers a 24-7 advice nurse line, and you can call or text to set up a virtual appointment. And you can even get a 90-day supply of your prescription by mail. All of these options make it really convenient to get care.”
